Remember Him? – Giants Promote Jets Hazing Victim Brian Jackson

By Tommy Willet -- With the Yankees clinching a playoff spot, this Wednesday afternoon isn't exactly a prime time for a football team to make headlines. But since the Giants look like they're trying their hardest to knock themselves out of contention by the middle of October, we thought we'd give them a spot in Wednesday's Remember Him? Giants safety Michael Johnson's New York career probably came to an end when the team placed him on the injured reserve list yesterday. While no one wants to see a player go down, this did give the G-Men an extra roster spot, which they used to promote practice squad member Brian Jackson.

Remember Him? – Leon Washington BEASTS For Seattle With TWO Special Teams Touchdowns

By Tommy Willet -- Today we're going to discuss former Jets running back Leon Washington, who single-handedly beat the Sand Diego Chargers this week with his two.... that's right, TWO... special teams touchdowns. (VIDEO!) For those of you who remember, the former Pro Bowler was traded by the Jets this past off-season, as they didn't believe he'd be able to fully recover from the compound fracture in his fibula. for those of you who remember back even further, Washington was a fourth-round pick of the Jets back in 2006.... the pick they got from the Kansas City Chiefs in return for Herm Edwards.

Remember Him? – David Wells Love Affair With Joe Torre

Well, not exactly. This quote was the subject of a Huffington Post Sports post filed by Digest contributor Michael Klopman: "As a manager, I think (Joe Torre is) terrible," Wells said. "He wasn't a fair manager. He didn't treat people the same. He definitely didn't treat me the same." "I don't like him at all."

Remember Him? – Drew Henson on ESPN

By Mark C. Rinaldi -- I was recently watching a classic Yankee game in which Robin Ventura was the team’s starting third basement. Ventura said something along the lines of “I know I am just keeping third base warm till Drew Henson is ready for the big leagues.” It was a very classy line from a professional who clearly knew his place with the ball club.

Remember Him? – Is Joe Torre’s Next Stop Flushing, Queens?

By Anthony Strait -- When former Yankee manager Joe Torre announced he was stepping down as Manager of the Dodgers, light bulbs went off in the head of Mets fans everywhere. It is no secret that Jerry Manuel’s job status is as shaky as a ride on the 7 train these days. The thought of maybe enticing Torre to bring the Mets back to relativity has to be in the minds of the Wilpons. Torre announced during a radio interview on WFAN Monday that the door was open to managing again. He also stated that he had considered leaving Los Angeles for a while.

Remember Him? – Joe Torre Calls It A Career

So long, Joe. ESPN is reporting that current Los Angeles Dodgers manager Joe Torre plans to retire at the end of the season. He will be replaced by former Yankee Don Mattingly. We'll have to do a separate Remember Him? for Don, however, as today our focus is on the 70-year old man riding the horse off into the sunset. The list of accomplishments on Torre's resume is long, but the ones he'll be remembered for around here will managing the Yanks to the playoffs in every one of his 12 seasons, including four World Series Championships.

Remember Him? – Billy Wagner Thinks Your Strikeout Record Is Stupid

Earlier this week, former New York Met Billy Wagner set a new record for strikeouts by a left-handed reliever with 1,170. It’s a prestigious record and quite the milestone for the former Met, an accomplishment that should impress everyone. Everyone except for Wagner that is. B-Wags, never short on a good quote, ahd this to say after the game: "I said 'We're getting our (butts) kicked, it's raining, let's go. (The record) is stupid. Who in their right mind makes a big deal out of doing something they're supposed to do in the first place?... It's not worth it to make a big deal out of that. That's embarrassing." Hey man, it’s your record. Do with it what you like. We understand the frustration of being in a game your losing, but still…. 1,170 strikeouts is a little beyond what you’re “suppose to do.” Whatever. At least he doesn’t beat up his baby...

Remember Him? – Tiki Barber Hires PR Agency

Great find by good friend of The Digest and Huffington Post employee Michael Klopman: One of the most smug athletes to ever represent the great city of New York, Tiki Barber, has hired a public relations agency as he tries desperately to repair his tattered public image. For all those who may have forgotten, the former New York Giant did the same thing to his wife that he did to his former football team: quit. The only difference is, the Giants weren’t eight months pregnant at the time. Barber’s wife, Ginny Cha, was eight months into her pregnancy when Barber left her for NBC intern Tracy Lynn Johnson.

Remember Him? – Johnny Damon Turns Down Red Sox Reunion

Can't say we blame him. Former New York Yankee, and yes, Boston Red Sox, Johnny Damon has elected to stay with Detroit rather than reunite with his former team in Beantown (and get a better chance of making the playoffs).
