Mensch of the Week – Jeremy Shockey

Mensch of the Week – Jeremy Shockey

There are a lot of words fans of the New York Giants would have used to describe tight end and former G-MAN Jeremy Shockey. None of said fans would likely use the word "Mensch." Until this week, that is, as it was widely reported that Shockey, now a Carolina Panther, saved teammate Ben Hartsock from choking to death.

Game On! Jets, Giants Notes Before Shortest Offseason Ever

So just as previously predicted, the NFL owners and players found a way to split their seemingly-limitless amount of continually-growing profit right before they'd end up losing any of it. The lockout officially came to an end Monday evening, meaning the 2011 NFL season is no longer in jeopardy. Now we get the NFL offseason on Red Bull, which'll likely lead to the biggest NFL Opening Week ever. While the teams aren't allowed to officially sign other team's free agents until Friday, here are some quick notes and thoughts for Jets and Giants fans alike:

Remember Him? – Tiki Barber Is Coming Out Of Retirement

By Eric Marmon -- While we're all on pins and needles to see if/when the NFL owners and the NFLPA can come together to make a new CBA before Friday's new deadline, there is some nearly-equaly shocking football news hitting the Twitter-verse as we speak. According to multiple reports, former New York Giants Benedict Arnold, er, running back Tiki Barber has filed papers to come out of retirement.

Remember Him? Ex-Jet Howard Green Makes Super Bowl Top Play

Remember Him? Ex-Jet Howard Green Makes Super Bowl Top Play

By Eric Marmon -- When New York Jets cast-off Danny Woodhead started tearing it up for the New England Patriots this season, it was viewed as a personnel gaffe by the Jets front office made even worse by the fact that the tiny running back would be helping the evilest of rivals. However, Woodheads feel-good story brings up few bad feelings now for Gang Green, since his season ended at the hands of the team that cut him loose. And at the end of the day, Woodhead wasn't the Ex-Jet making epic plays on football's biggest stage. That role was reserved for Howard Green.

Remember Him? – Stephon Marbury Gets Cut From China. What’s Next?

By Mark C. Rinaldi -- News out of China is saying that the Chinese team that signed Stephon Marbury has now cut the number one man on Brooklyn’s most loathed list. So even China is done with Marbury’s basketball talents. What’s next for the point guard? Here are just a few of the ideas.

Remember Him? – Former Yankee Melky Cabrera Gets Released

By Tommy Willet -- I think I speak for all Yankees fans when I say that Javier Vazquez 2.0 has been a major bust, and so it's pleasurable to see that the Braves haven't gotten much either. The only way this trade gets remembered is if the 19-year-old with elbow issues becomes a star, and that already seems unlikely. That being said, Melky was always well-liked around here, and it's disappointing to see him struggle. Not to mention surprising; one would assume the switch from the AL East to the NL East would help Cabrera's numbers, but that certainly wasn't the case.

Remember Him? – Former Giant CC Brown Loses To Former Team (But He Still Won’t SHUT UP)

By Cooper L. Train -- Wow, I still can't believe The Digest didn't spend any time last week hyping the return of former New York Giant CC Brown. Brown, for all Giants fans lucky enough to forget, was the safety repeatedly getting caught out of coverage last season in that awful Big Blue defense that imploded down the stretch. And for anyone not paying attention, Brown still holds a grudge

Remember Him? – FanHouse Says Roger Clemens Is Worse Than Favre, Vick, AND BP Oil

By Cooper L. Train -- With the MLB Championship Series coming up this weekend, it's hard to think about anything other than baseball. And with a couple more days till we get to see CC Sabathia throw another pitch, we've been trying to get our hands on anything we can that will help scratch the itch. An article by David Whitley at AOL Fanhouse caught our attention this week, with its bashing of former Yankee pitcher Roger Clemens. In case you haven't heard, Clemens may be facing jail time for allegedly lying to the United States Congress about his use of steroids. While admittedly my knowledge of American law is limited to how I can prevent a police officer from searching my car, I'm fairly certain lying to Congress under oath is a pretty big no-no.
