Holland Lifts Rangers In World Series Game 4

The Texas Rangers hoped Derek Holland would be efficient at best in Game 4 of the World Series. They did not see this great performance coming from their 25-year-old left-hander. In fact, he probably didn't even see this coming. Holland pitched the game of his life last night in the Rangers’ 4-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4. He threw a two-hitter for 8 1/3 shutout innings, and he struck out seven while only walking two.

Bud Selig Doesn’t Like Looking Stupid (Then He Should Stop Acting Stupid)

Yesterday we ripped into Major League Baseballs pathetically moronic mandate forbiding the New York Mets players from wearing NYPD or FDNY caps during the September 11th Ten Year Anniversary Game, standing by this poor decision to such a degree that they sent people down to the dugout in the 4th inning to remove all banned hatwear. It was black-eye for baseball, one that really couldn't have gotten any worse... or could it?? See how Bud Selig responded to Hat-Gate by clicking below...

Mets Epic Fail: MLB Physically Removed FDNY & NYPD Hats From Mets Dugout

The guys who run baseball, they do some pretty dumb things sometimes. But it's going to be pretty tough for them to produce a decision dumber than the ones they made yesterday, when they threatened the New York Mets players and coaching staff with serious, hefty fines if they decided to wear FDNY or NYPD hats during last night's ballgame, which of course was on the tenth anniversary of September 11th, 2001.

Nnamdi Asomugha: Philly Beats New York AGAIN

Earlier this afternoon, as NFL teams are finally allowed to start officially start signing free agents, it has been announced that the Philadelphia Eagles, and NOT the New York Jets, have landed No. 1 free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. And once again, Philadelphians are dancing in the streets while New Yorkers sit at home wondering how it all went wrong again. Is Philadelphia just simply the better city??

Fortune and Baseball’s Human Element

Fortune and Baseball’s Human Element

The argument about instant replay in baseball is rooted in two separate views of the game's nature. If we see baseball purely as a self-contained realm of competition, then the integrity of that competition should come first in every decision we make. We should strive, using whatever means necessary, to enforce the rules to perfection. Instant replay is thus a requirement, because what matters more than the length or pace of the game is that we "get it right."

Trading Beltran Starts New Era For Mets

This is what Sandy Alderson has been waiting for. He wanted to make a franchise-changing move, and he finally did that yesterday. The first-year general manager of your New York Mets traded Carlos Beltran to the Giants for prized pitching prospect Zack Wheeler. It’s a great deal. Alderson was able to convince the Giants to give up something for a player that unquestionably would not have been on his roster come 2012.

Trading K-Rod Should Mean Change Of Direction For New York Mets

When Sandy Alderson traded Francisco Rodriguez after the final out was made in the 2011 MLB All-Star Game, there were many reactions. There was more outrage than commendations for this move, a reaction this writer can't even begin to fathom. From this perspective, it was the right move to make. It had to happen, so that the New York Mets avoid paying Rodriguez $17.5 million next year, which would be the option that he would exercise if he stayed with the team.

David Ortiz, The Designated Hitter, And Basic Baseball Dumbness

David Ortiz, The Designated Hitter, And Basic Baseball Dumbness

With the Home Run Derby set for this evening, American League slugging Captain David Ortiz was asked his thoughts on whether it was time for the National League to adopt the DH rule. Ortiz, who of course is not a real baseball player because he only plays half the game, was adamant in his position that it's time the NL catch up and keep their pitchers from hitting. His logic, however, was nearly as dumb as the fact that MLB has two separate sets of rules for its two leagues.

Mets Set To Face Seven Straight All-Star Pitchers. For Realz

When it rains, it pours. That's a saying that has applied pretty well to the New York Mets the past handful of years, but it probably has never been truer than it will be for the next seven games. For perhaps the first time in the history of baseball, and almost certainly the first time in the history of the Mets, Flushing's Finest will be facing seven consecutive all-star starting pitchers.
