WEDNESDAY MORNING DINGERS: What K-Rod Texts, Ines Is Inappropriate, And The Yankees Take Back First

Happy Hump Day everybody.... just a friendly reminder, "Hump Day" is a phrase not to be taken literally, despite what that old lady tried to do to you on the subway this morning. She was probably just overexcited about all the primary voting yesterday. Exciting stuff, if you've been following the Kelly Ayotte vs. Ovide Lamontagne Thrilla In New Hampshilla. For the rest of us, it was just another day, albeit with a lot more rubbish & flyers on the ground... Some quick-hits from around the City this morning:

MONDAY MORNING DINGERS: Giants Win, Yankees/Mets Lose, And Jets vs. Ravens Is No Jets vs. Ines

By Cooper L. Train -- Great weekend to be here at The NY Sports Digest. We've made a few additions to the site, including our brand new Latest News Ticker, seen above. It costs about as much as the New Meadowlands PCLs, so be sure to check it out. (Special thanks to friend of The Digest Aaron Frank for all his help setting it up) For all friends of The Digest who want to show their support, be sure to sign up for our Facebook group and follow our Twitter page. For all non-friends of The Digest, well... you can sign-up for them both anyway. We don't hate. Now, on to what people are talking about this morning:

Johan Santana Getting Mark Prior Surgery (Insert Expletive Here)

By Cooper L. Train -- When I first heard that Santana was going to sit the rest of the season out, I honestly thought it was a great idea. The Mets season, with just over 20 games to play, is over. Anyone who says otherwise is drinking the acid-filled Kool-Aid in the midst of a seriously worrisome pipe dream. So the plan to sit their only worth-while player until next season seemed to be, at least on paper, a smart one.

Pathetic Mets Beat by Surging Braves, Duda, Duda/Jason Heyward Kills the Mets, Oh De Duda Day

By Shani Muschel -- The only interesting thing about the Mets right now is that I can make up corny songs like that one with the last name of the Mets' new no-name left fielder, Lucas Duda.

Amazing Decline: New York Mets ‘Flush’ Away Another Season

Amazing Decline: New York Mets ‘Flush’ Away Another Season

Another August ending at Citi Field also meant another meaningless regular season game in the books. The problem is the New York Mets organization has underachieved on so many levels. It’s been either on the field, on paper, in the standings and nowadays even in player conduct. So much has gone wrong for this franchise since the night of October 19, 2006. That was the night Carlos Beltran took a called third strike to end game seven of the National League Championship Series. As disappointing as that was, there was reason to believe that New York’s “other” team would be contenders for years to come.

Remember Him? – Billy Wagner Thinks Your Strikeout Record Is Stupid

Remember Him? – Billy Wagner Thinks Your Strikeout Record Is Stupid

Earlier this week, former New York Met Billy Wagner set a new record for strikeouts by a left-handed reliever with 1,170. It’s a prestigious record and quite the milestone for the former Met, an accomplishment that should impress everyone. Everyone except for Wagner that is. B-Wags, never short on a good quote, ahd this to say after the game: "I said 'We're getting our (butts) kicked, it's raining, let's go. (The record) is stupid. Who in their right mind makes a big deal out of doing something they're supposed to do in the first place?... It's not worth it to make a big deal out of that. That's embarrassing." Hey man, it’s your record. Do with it what you like. We understand the frustration of being in a game your losing, but still…. 1,170 strikeouts is a little beyond what you’re “suppose to do.” Whatever. At least he doesn’t beat up his baby...

Mets, Monotony, and Mayhem: How To Fix The 2011 New York Mets

Mets, Monotony, and Mayhem: How To Fix The 2011 New York Mets

By Aaron Sidorov --- Year after year, day after day, and game after game, the New York Mets experience the same. The same hopes. The same dreams. The same misfortune. You know what I’m talking about. Mets fans experience it too. At the start of the season it’s, “This is the year,” and 2 months and 3 injuries later it’s back to “the un-mazins.” Then — hey — the boys are hitting again. They’re running again. And, gosh-darn’it, people like them. Just then, right when you’re ready to hop back on, the bandwagon breaks and the team falls back into dismal disarray. Pick your poison: players in scandals, closers in fights, all-stars all-sucking the life out of an already depressing team. You name it — you know it — they play it. That’s the new face of Mets baseball. A team that tragically performs below, above, and right...

Was Last Night’s Mets Loss a Microcosm of the Rest of the Season?

For the second time in two nights, the outcome of last night's Mets game came down to the last at-bat. But there would be no heroic come from behind win this time.

Remember Him? – Rod Barajas Beasts For Dodgers

In a hopefully reoccurring feature here at the NY Sports Digest, "Remember Him?" will take a look at athletes or sports figures with a past-connection to Gotham, who somehow have found themselves back in the national spotlight. Today's Remember Him?: Rod Barajas.

Mets Win, Walk-Off Style, Thanks to…. Luis Castillo?!!

Mets Win, Walk-Off Style, Thanks to…. Luis Castillo?!!

Having been injured much of the season with a sore big toe, (perhaps the wimpiest of all DL-necessary injuries) Castillo came back in July and quickly joined the ever-growing list of "bad for the clubhouse" Mets players that already included Oliver Perez and John Maine. A still-hobbling Carlos Beltran soon followed suit, and most recently...
