The Fantasy Football Chronicles: Epilogue Part III – Kickers, Defense, & Special Teams

In the third and final installment of the Fantasy Football Chronicles Epilogue, we take a look at the glue positions that can help turn a contender into a champion... or a .500 team into a disaster. Be sure to check our my look at Quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers from earlier in the week. (Again: real-life stats, unless otherwise stated, are the players’ season totals through the completion of week 17. Players’ fantasy stat totals are of weeks 1-15, the extent of my fantasy season through my first-round elimination.)

NFL Playoffs – WILD CARD WEEKEND – CONFIDENCE RANKINGS

NFL Playoffs – WILD CARD WEEKEND – CONFIDENCE RANKINGS

The concept of the CONFIDENCE RANKINGS comes from ESPN’s Mike and Mike; they rank the eight quarterbacks, head coaches, and defenses, then add up the numbers of the rankings and the team with the lower number in that game should be the winner come the weekend. We at NYSD had to improve on their process. Rather then just two people, I personally scoured the country for some of the most diehard football fans in order to get the most precise rankings possible and this is what we came up with. This weekend may be the best two days in sports all year, so sit back, crack open a brewski and enjoy the games on your flat screen… that is unless you’re lucky enough to actually go to one of the game.

Victor Cruz’s Success Helps Giants To Where They Are

Victor Cruz’s Success Helps Giants To Where They Are

When Steve Smith left the Giants to sign with the rival Eagles as a free agent, WFAN’s Craig Carton asked a caller about what there was to be optimistic about the 2011 New York Giants. The gentleman told Carton how good Victor Cruz can be as a wide receiver, and he was mocked for being optimistic on an unknown player. It’s hard to fault Carton in this situation. No one knew what Cruz was going to do, and that includes the caller, who was being hopeful rather than knowing what would happen. There have been questions about Cruz even making the team during training camp. Cruz made the team, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Giants Shut Up Ryan, Knock Out Jets

The New York Jets and head coach Rex Ryan spent the previous five days taking so many shots at their Meadowlands counterparts, you’d think they were part of the media. Ryan insisted that his team was the best in the city, based on the Jets two consecutive AFC title game appearances compared to the New York Giants two straight seasons missing the playoffs. Giants coach Tom Coughlin used one line to sum it up-“Talk is cheap, play the game,” and that’s exactly what the GMEN did. The Giants let their play do their in a 29-14 win over the Jets Saturday at MetLife stadium. Big Blue not only eliminated the “Dream Team” down in Philly, but they set up a winner-take-all showdown for the NFC East crown next Sunday night against the Cowboys at home.
