A lot of fashion talk has occurred recently in NBA circles, mostly about how every player seems to think glasses without lenses are now really super cool. As a Lasix out-patient who loathed everything about his time wearing glasses, I don’t really get it. And I sorta-kinda agree with the idea that Dwyane Wade putting on a pair of useless specs on after losing Game 5 at home gives off the impression winning isn’t his top priority. But I also don’t really like D-Wade, for a plethora of different reasons that are neither here nor there, so take my opinion on the Mastermind behind the Big Three with a grain of salt. And then throw the salt in Wade’s eyeballs. His glasses won’t protect him.
However, if we are going to discuss NBA all-star fashion, though I loathe to do so, then we need to address the denim-vest Boondocks-Saints-style-Star-of-David-necklace black-fedora ensemble Amar’e Stoudemire rocked to the Miami Heat – Boston Celtics game yesterday.
The outfit, via @NBA:
As Business Insider points out, the outfit is suspiciously similar to the one Amar’e rocked the night the fire extinguisher felt his fury. While my fashion eye is poor, I am a little thrown off by the Star of David that appears to be attached to Rosary Beeds. Gives off kind of a Jew-for-Jesus vibe. Also, an Isaac Hayes vibe, though he was a Scientologist.
The next natural question is whether Stoudemire wore his Heat free giveaway t-shirt on top of the vest, or under it. At least his sunglasses have lenses.
I’ve got a whole bunch of other things to say about a whole bunch of other things. So follow me on Twitter via @DrMarmon and see what’s-what.
