January 27, 1972 – Birthday of Jets wide receiver Chad Askew.

January 27, 1979 - Rangers end Islander’s home unbeaten streak of 23 games with a 7-2 win.

January 27, 1988 – Rangers acquire Chris Nilan.

January 27, 1990 – Islander Patrick Flatley gets 2 goals and 3 assists in a 9-3 win over Pittsburgh.

January 27, 1991 - Giants win Super Bowl XXV, 20-19 over Buffalo by coming from behind on a Matt Bahr field-goal in the 4th quarter.
