Jorge Posada is a lot of things. And when you look back at his New York Yankee career, a high majority of those things will be seen as positive, looked upon and viewed with joy and happiness and wonderment by any individual who has ever rooted for the Bronx Bombers.
The 2011 baseball season has not been the norm for Posada. Told in the offseason he’d no longer be given the opportunity to be the team’s full time catcher, Posada has struggled in his new permanent DH role. His struggling bat led to the much-debated Posada-gate, when the Yankee lifer asked to be taken out of the Yankee line-up.
Which is why we’re going back to one of our old features, the NY Sports Digest Mensch of the Week, where we celebrate the charity work done by one of sports biggest names. While Posada’s work on the field might not be up to the standards Yankee fans typically hold him to, The Jorge Posada Foundation continues to thrive off of it.
“The Jorge Posada Foundation is a non-profit organization established by the New York Yankees’ All-Star Catcher, Jorge Posada, and his wife, Laura. Their son, Jorge Luis, was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis when he was just ten days old and has undergone eight major surgeries to correct the condition. The Posada Family strongly believes that they were touched by Craniosynostosis so that they could make a difference in the lives of others dealing with this condition.”
It is the goal of the Jorge Posada Foundation to provide families and parents with “emotional support through (the) Mentors Network and partner with medical centers around the country… to create awareness about the condition through events and through funding other education outreach efforts.)
The Foundation’s official website has a plethora of different ways you can offer your support,e ven if its just by becoming a fan of their facebook page or following them on twitter.
Jorge Posada may not be the same player he use to be. But Yankee fans have little doubt that he’ll continue to be the Mensch he is long after his playing days are over. Hip Hip Jorge Indeed.

All the best, from Mexico for you and your family.
And of course, I hope you keep doing that wonderful work at the foundation. Because in the great game of life, you’ll always be a big slugger and also the catcher every pitcher may like to have behind home plate.
Sincerely,
Mauro J. and family.
