The Orlando Magic beat the Philadelphia 76ers Monday night, and the Washington Wizards beat the Boston Celtics in overtime. The relevance? It means the NBA Playoff schedule and opponent for your New York Knicks has been set, and it is those same Boston Celtics.

- Game 2: Tuesday, April 19th, at 7 pm
- Game 3: Friday, April 22nd, at 7 pm IN NEW YORK!
- Game 4: Sunday, April 24th, at 3:30 pm IN NEW YORK!
- Game 5: Tuesday, April 26th, at TBD*

The first knee-jerk reaction by fans could be disappointment. After all, it was coming down to either Boston or the Miami Heat, and what would be a more fitting start to this new era in Knicks postseason basketball than seeing a team of superstars that wanted to be in The Big Apple knocking off the team of superstars that snubbed it? Additionally, as far as teams go, the general consensus throughout most of the year has been that Boston was the better all around team, while Miami was two great players who played the same position, an overrated alien from Avatar who played power forward, and a bunch of scrubs. Therefore, the fact that the Knicks have to play the complete team rather than the swiss-cheese roster should be seen as a bummer.
Or is it? Boston was the best team in the East the first half of the season, but since the emotional trade of Kendrick Perkins they have been woeful. It’s hard to imagine that trading one player (although a starter, albeit their least-talented starter) would turn the NBA’s elite into a mediocre ballclub. Then again, it’s harder to argue with results, and since that very trade, the Boston C’s have been just a hair above shitty.
Your Knicks, meanwhile, are on the opposite side of the spectrum. Winners of seven straight, Carmelo Anthony is finally starting to step up in ways some said he never would, and the Knicks are, all of a sudden, going into the playoffs as the hottest team in basketball.
We’ll have a lot more on this series as the week goes on. But the fact is for today; Your Knicks are back in the playoffs, and are set to face an opponent that is very, very beatable.
