2011 NFL Draft: The Remix

2011 NFL Draft: The Remix

Perhaps the oddest NFL offseason in recent memory will sorta, kinda return to normalcy tonight. Those not glued to the TV screen following Michael Scott's Office finale could shuffle down to Radio City Music Hall for the 2011 NFL Draft. With the entire offseason on-hold as the NFL appeals Judge Nelson's decision to lift the lockout, the Draft is the first regularly scheduled spring football event that will occur per usual. Unfortunately, it will not return in full: due to the uncertain lockout situation, player trades will likely not exist at all, and there's questions about how much interaction the draftees will be allowed to have with their new employers, if any. (We have little doubt this will prevent teams from trying to sell replica jersey's of their newest players, however.) Click below for the full list of Jets and Giants picks, as well as a pretty sick-nasty SportsCenter Montage...

President Obama and Revis Island

President Obama and Revis Island

The lead story for most news sites yesterday was President Obama revealing his birth certificate. I personally haven't wasted my time looking at it yet, cause if I wanted to look at a fake birth certificate, I'd just call up Miguel Tejada. Or Danny Almonte. Or Manny Aybar, Bartolo Colon, Octavio Dotel, David Ortiz, Luis Vizcaino, Rafael Furcal, alfonso Soriano... However, the Prez did get something done yesterday besides dealing with Trump's "silliness." He was in Manhatty for "a trio of fund-raisers, and invited Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis to attend."

Why Mike D’Antoni Should NOT Be Fired

Why Mike D’Antoni Should NOT Be Fired

It’s been three years for Mike D’Antoni as the head coach of the New York Knicks. He has finished above .500 only once, this season, with a record of 42-40… which goes down to 42-44 if you count the team’s disappointing sweep in the playoffs. In three seasons, the D’antoni-led Knicks have won 103 out of a possible 250 games. These are not acceptable results, whether you’re coaching in New York or Newfoundland. But raise your hands if you think it’s fair to count the first two years of D’Antoni’s tenure, when he inherited a roster whose veteran presence was Stephon Marbury and Eddy Curry. Here's why the Knicks should keep him around for at least one more year.

Boy You Trippin: Jets Players Training With Sal Alosi

Boy You Trippin: Jets Players Training With Sal Alosi

As we await the NFL's appeal to the 8th circuit, sitting patiently in the waiting room of football purgatory, reports have been coming out of different NFL players training in various non-NFL facilities with various non-NFL personnel. Among those personnel is disgraced former New York Jet Sal Alosi, last seen going viral on youtube for tripping a Miami Dolphin. The controversy that followed, including not just the trip but the Red Rover-esque group of men built by Alosi along the sideline led to the Jets strength and conditioning immediate resignation. Since he no longer works for the Jets, Alosi is now free to train them. Among those taking part in the Alosi-program is left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson and defensive end Mike DeVito.

Why Mike D’Antoni Should Be Fired

It’s been three years for Mike D’Antoni as the head coach of the New York Knicks. From evaluating D’Antoni in his time with the Knicks, it hasn’t been good. This should convince the organization to fire him and hire a coach that can take the team to the next level, which would be taking the team to the Eastern Conference Finals or, y'know, simply winning a playoff game. In this weekend’s playoff games against the Celtics, the blowouts served as a reflection of the job the Knicks coach has done in three years. The Knicks don’t play defense, and even the offense often starts out flat. It is no wonder teams don’t take them seriously as a championship contender.

Should The Knicks Fire Mike D’Antoni??

Should The Knicks Fire Mike D’Antoni??

Now that the off-season has officially begun for the New York Knicks, there are some burning questions surrounding the franchise. Perhaps the most pressing issue, at least in the eyes of fans, is at the head coaching position. Mike D’Antoni is entering the final year of his four year deal he signed in 2008. Howeve,; after the Knicks were swept by the Boston Celtics (including two lackluster efforts in games 3 and 4) many fans and media pundits are calling for the coach to get his walking papers. While he has played a significant part in helping the team turn around and make the playoffs for the first time since 2004, the consistent lack of defense and the fact that the Knicks were the only playoff team not to win a games has brought the coach under heavy fire.

Double Elimination For NY Sports Fans; Knicks, Rangers Season’s OVER

Call it a cruel twist of fate or call it sheer coincidence, but the two teams that have not played postseason games at the same time in 14 years were both eliminated in the span of 24 hours. The Knicks and the Rangers went 1-8 over the last week, leading to both teams going into early summer vacation. The renovations that are happening at Madison Square Garden were giving a two month head start, thanks to the stellar play of the Washington Capitals and Boston Celtics.
