“If you buy it, they will come.”

That’s Ray’s motto. And you don’t buy anything — he will.

And, people will come, Ray. They’ll come to the Garden for reasons they can’t even fathom. They’ll turn to your website not knowing for sure why they’re doing it. They’ll write to you as innocent as children, longing for the past. “Of course, I won’t mind if you join me,” you’ll say. “It’s on me.” They’ll pass out from excitement when thinking about it: for it is money they will save and peace they seek. And they’ll walk out to the seats; sit in happiness on a perfect afternoon. They’ll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they’ll watch the game and it’ll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they’ll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been the New York Knicks. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But the Knicks have marked the time. This court, this game: it’s a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good and could be again. Oh… people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

People will come… and they won’t have to pay.

That’s right. There is a man named Ray who rewards all fans by offering one of his two Knicks season tickets, for free, each game. Again: this Ray character is going to give a different fan one ticket each game…for free. There is no catch. There is no motive. You go to www.getmetomsg.com. You write a short letter. Ray will choose the winner for each game. If your letter wins, you win. If you win, you go to a game at the Garden, for free. No cost. You pay nothing at all. Put your wallet away, damnit, because, no, you cannot pay the bill this time.

This all begs one question: why on Earth would Ray do this? Who the hell is Ray? And, what does spaghetti really taste like to an ant?

The hidden beauty of it all? You don’t know Ray. Ray doesn’t know you. You could be a serial killer. Ray could be an axe murderer. Or you both could be Swedish foot models. You don’t know! There’s no pre-screening, no finger prints, no background-check necessary. It’s that potential danger that is so exhilarating!

But, fear not! For, I do know Ray. He is a great guy and he’s looking to share his love of basketball with the masses. So, take a chance — write a letter — and who knows, maybe he’ll also buy you a hot dog.
